Hi everyone, First, I want to Thank
all of you for being great customers. I have been working with wood for the last 30 years from building custom homes, furniture, cabinets, and yes guitars. I was the production Engineer and in charge of all the wood coming and going from one of the top guitar companies around. I take pride in my work and have been told that I am an artist when it comes to not only working with woods but also selecting and matching wood grains and colors. I go direct to the mills to hand select my woods for guitar, mandolin, and violin tops and back/side sets. By going direct to the mills, I select the best grain and most figured woods that I can find. If the mill that I am at does not have what I am looking for, I will go to the next mill. I spend a little more time and money selecting wood this way but the end result is beautiful figured guitar woods. My tops, and back/side sets are perfectly bookmatched and quartersawn and my neck blanks are flatsawn or quartersawn at customers request. When I am resawing my back and side sets, each back and side set comes from the same billet of wood. Also when resawing, I take the extra time to number each bookmatched set. For example, if your bookmatched back comes from the middle of the billet the bookmatched sides come from the middle of the same billet. By taking the back and sides from the same billet of wood and from the same area of the billet, both the grain and color are perfectly matched. My motto is if I wouldn't’t use it for my own project, my customers will not use it. I grade my tops in the following manner. For Master Grade tops, I like the growth rings to be 20 + the whole width of the board. 4A tops are between 17 on the wide and 25 on the tight. 3A tops are between 13 on the wide and 20 on the tight. All of my Sitka, Bearclaw, and Engelmann billets are from hand split billets straight from Alaska and Canada to provide you with the best cleft grain possible which provides you with a much stronger top. Again, I take pride in my work, which will reflect in your work with beautiful guitar woods and inlay material with the end result being a beautiful guitar. If there is something that you are looking for and it is not on my web site, give me an email or call. Thank You |
